Learning about Boundaries through Sumo

This week in preschool, we learned about boundaries of touching through Sumo Wrestling. Children who had shown an interest went up

Many, if not all, young children experiment with physical aggression in their early years. Rough and tumble play is often a good way for them to learn about acceptable touches and respecting other people's boundaries.

Through sumo wrestling they have had the opportunity to learn about:
- which touches can be done safely,
- stopping even if the play isn't over (which helps to develop self-control),
- how to have a respectful match, bowing to our partners when finished,
- how to watch ourselves and our own bodies, and more!

Check out this article on Big Body Play for more information on helping your child to learn through Big Body Movements such as wrestling.

Here are some photos from our learning.
