Jaivi and Johnny's Second Visit

Ms. Inge: Our babies are here.
Alister: They are so cute. The blue one is half asleep. His eyes are like this.
Lottie: He is Johnny.
Ryan: The other is open his eyes.
Ms. Inge: Her name is Jaivi. Both of their names sound the same at the beginning.
Many: It's a J!

Ms. Inge: What do you see or notice about the babies? Let's sing our thinking song to help us.

Everyone: (singing)
Think, think, think.
Everybody think.
We stop, we blink
and then we think, think, think.

Ms. Inge: Let's tell our friends what we see first. Turn and talk.
everyone chats

Ms. Inge: Let's share and ask questions now.
Trey: How come Johnny has a moon on his shirt?
Mommy: Do you like it? Johnny likes it also.
Ryan: She have a heart.
Yahvi: That is a flower.
Ms. Inge: Hmm...I wonder if we do that, too! Let's look at our clothes.
everyone chats
Ms. Inge: What do you notice about their legs?
Alister: They want to get up.
Yahvi: No, they just like to move them. Johnny is sucking his hand. Jaivi does that, too.
Ms. Inge: Why do babies do that?
Kaitlyn: Because they don't know if it's food or not. You can put your thumb in your mouth and suck it.
Ms. Inge: Why do babies or younger people do that?
Johnny starts to cry.
Ms. Inge: He's sad and he's putting his hand in his mouth. What do you think he is trying to tell us?
Trey: He needs to poo.
Ms. Inge: Yes, last time he needed to poo when he cried. I wonder if it is something different this time. This time, he has his hand in his mouth before he started to cry. What do we do with our mouth?
Zachary: Eat. He's hungry.

The kids try singing a lullaby to help Johnny.

The river is flowing, flowing and flowing.
The river is flowing, down to the sea.
Momma carry me, a child, I'll always be,
Momma carry me, down to the sea.

Ms. Inge: Did it work?
Everyone: No.
Johnny's Mom: I will feed him now.
Ms. Inge: It looks like we know what is wrong. Johnny told us how he was feeling and his mom made a plan to help him. Johnny used a problem-solving tool like we do! He said how he felt.

Zachary: Can babies eat chocolate ice cream?
Jaivi's Mommy: No, they just need milk.
Alister: Can babies eat vanilla ice cream?
Onni: What about water?
Jaivi's Mommy: They don't need water and they can't eat ice cream.

Ms. Inge: Look! Now Johnny is sucking his thumb. He looks like he is falling asleep. Why is he sucking his thumb?
Yahvi: Because he doesn't know.
Ms. Inge: Sometimes babies also suck on their hand when they need to calm down. What do you do to calm down?

Yahvi: I calm down by breathing.
Zachary: I go in my room.
Ryan: By being sneaky.
Trey: I spy on my mom to make me feel better. I sneak to my mom.
Roman: I calm down by playing with my toys.
Onni: I feel better when mommy comes.
Lucia: I feel better when I eat food.
Lottie: I drink water and breathe.
Leona: I lay down and breathe.
Kaitlyn: I usually have ice and lollipops. Hugs and ice.
Hailey: I take a deep breath to calm down.
Charlie: I just eat a strawberry bar.
Alister: I calm down by playing screens. I play monster legends on my iPad.
